The Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) of Miami and the Fondazione di Sardegna present the exhibition Journey to Sardinia. The Photo Solstice 2018 – 2025, a contemporary photographic interpretation of the Italian island curated by Marco Delogu.
Olivo Barbieri, Marco Delogu, Pino Musi, and Paolo Ventura with Marco Loi, Luca Nostri, Vincenzo Pagliuca, and students from the latest edition of The Photo Solstice.
The exhibition retraces the last eight years of two major artistic initiatives — Commissione Sardegna and The Photo Solstice — both developed as part of the AR/S – Shared Art in Sardinia project. Over this period of work, both on and off the island, numerous exhibitions have been held at local and international levels, alongside seven editions of the workshop The Photo Solstice: initially on the island of Asinara, then in Gavoi, Cagliari, and more recently on the island of Culuccia. A unique educational experience offered free of charge.
The installation at the IIC Miami features works by internationally renowned photographers such as Olivo Barbieri, Marco Delogu, Pino Musi, and Paolo Ventura, alongside those by Marco Loi, Luca Nostri, Vincenzo Pagliuca, and students from the latest edition of The Photo Solstice.
Going beyond stereotypical images of Sardinia, the project explores the island through forgotten places, time-worn landscapes, and shifting presences. Photography becomes a tool to question the territory, capturing its contrasts, the traces of the past, and the tension between construction and decay. Each image invites the viewer to slow down, embrace uncertainty, and immerse themselves in a Sardinia that engages, provokes, and reveals a deep and original perspective on the region.
The exhibition will be open until November 26 and is accompanied by a newly published catalogue — featuring both the works on display and previously unseen materials — published by Punctum. The project, selected as one of the winners of the public call for the promotion of contemporary Italian photography abroad — aimed at the diplomatic-consular network and Italian Cultural Institutes worldwide — was made possible with the support of the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture.
